Nederland Stichting Elisabeth Groen 7.000 2021

Elisabeth Groen is a park for and by residents in Amersfoort. This park was created in the autumn of 2018 on the site of the former Meander Medical Center.

The Elisabeth Groen foundation wants to involve the local community in the protection of the park and inform them about nature conservation. The donation from the Wildlife Fund is used, among other things, to build a bee hotel. Various flowers and plants are placed that are good for biodiversity and attract insects, such as willows, margriet, chamomile and bellflowers. In addition, the management of the park is arranged in such a way that there are also nesting opportunities for bees. For example, mowing is done in a special way (sinus mowing), rotting wood is not cleaned up and pieces of sandy soil are left open to create an ideal environment for the insects. By setting up these projects together with local residents and volunteers, they are motivated to make their garden ‘insect-friendly’ at home as well.
